Is there a difference in tramadol marked An627 wh/round and 377 wh/oblong pill?

I got new ones from the pharma this time and want to know if the new ones I got are supposed to be better at all ? 1) Cuz the price difference and 2) I was taken off my hydrocodone after 5 years and put on these and they just don't do anything for me I find it a little ridiculous that I am prescribed 4-6 at a time which is easily over 1000 mg a day when I can take less codone and have better results. Any input would be helpful and if there might be something else I can do for the pain so I'm not eating so many pills I have a rather large tolerance to medications and I am tired of eating pills that don't really work I would rather eat Ibuprofen but I really was not helping my liver with the amt of those I had to take
I know this post is ancient, but for anyone who may be searching for some answers now, here's my two cents. I had been taking Amneal 50MG (AN 627 White Round) for several years, when without notice (which is permissable in the US) my pharmacy switched to Unichem (355 U, Yellow Oblong). I didn't really think anything about it because the pharmacist told me it was the same thing, same quality. OMG! They could not have been more wrong. I took my normal dose and ended up with a splitting headache, nausea, blurred vision, and then passed out for two hours. When I woke up, I felt horrible. And... hardly any analgesic effect at all. I tried smaller doses several times with the same effect. I highly advise precaution with the Unichem brand. The Amneal worked well for years. I am in the process of switching pharmacies and consulting with my doctor. But for now, I am without pain medication and it is no fun.
I filled out an FDA form concerning the event and am pursuing an independent chemical analysis. I can't say what has caused this, but I can confirm that there most definitely are quality differences between brands. What is written down on a paper in DC is not necessarily reflective of what is going on in a factory in Uttar Pradesh - not at all. I am also certain none of the employees at any of these factories is being treated fairly either. Caveat Emptor!

I know this is a long ago post, though I can share one thing with you. Sure the active ingredients are the same, though with the Tramadol 377 generic version made by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Inc, the inactive ingredients of this one really really hurts my stomach. It feels so bad that I have to vomit it out. I have had similar experiences with the minor pain drug Acetaminophen, where I can take almost all the other brands, yet when I take TYLENOL it really hurts my stomach. I think it's the inactive ingredient that is in the filler, like the white coating of it. I am not sure, I just know this brand is really bad on my stomach. So in theory no they are not all the same. There should be a warning on these inactive ingredients I feel. Though everyone has different reactions to medications. I know people who take these and they have no stomach problems. So if your also having a bad experience with one brand, it might not be the active drug that is the problem. Hope this helps someone.

Tramadol did nothing for my pain (fibromyalgia, lumbar and hip degeneration as well as psoriatic arthritis). I cannot take nsaids so was on oxycodone, gabapentin and amitriptyline (Lexapro and Xanax for depression/anxiety) for over five years until it wasn't enough anymore so the patch Belbuca was added once daily. This combo worked wonderfully for my pain. Because of new and upcoming government regulations, I slowly starting weaning myself off Oxycodone & Belbuca. Took me 6 months, but it has been soooo worth it. I'm finding my pain is less than when I was taking so much. I still take gabapentin and amitriptyline and have changed the meds for depression and anxiety. Feeling more hopeful every day. Just my two cents worth. You guys do know it is public record on whats in all those pills if you go online to the patent office and look them up you will see there is no difference between any of the pills chemical base wise to make them up strength wise and there are no different additives in any of those pills look it up yourself and see . What you are experiencing is what we call in the mental health/substance abuse filed called tolerance effect it is when you have a past tolerance or have build up a tolerance to the active chemical in the pills that can happen after just a few times take this medication. Its not that one pill is working different then another the only difference between them is who makes them and what they look like.
if you are on the same dosage for like a month and then take the same pill but from a different maker you have having a placebo effect of some kind or the meds are just not working like they used too dosage wise dew to your tolerance level going up where the meds are not working like they use too because your body need more of a dosage to achieve the same effect from the meds.

I disagree with you Ziggy. There are differences in the inactive ingredients. While an627 tramadol and 377 tramadol have the same active ingredients, the inactive ingredients are different in both pills.

That is not true. There absolutely can be a difference. By LAW, the parm companies are allowed to vary the amount of the actual pain reliever by as much as 20%. That's why some brands work better than others.

Nonsense ,you don't know what your talking about ,you sound like biden .
First of all, Tramadol is a drug that works for some & does nothing for others. I have been taking Tramadol for around 10 yrs for Fibromyalgia. It works ok for me. Before that i was on very heavy duty opioids for 12 yrs. I weaned myself off of them using the tramadol. I CAN tell the difference between manufacturers. Amneal does NOT work as well. Mine are made by Teva. This one works the best for me although none of them make me 100% pain free I am functionable. I take up to 5 50mg tabs a day. I usually take 2 in the morn & 2 at night but on a bad day ill slip another one in there sometime in the middle of the day. The key is to NOT let them wear off. Dont wait till youre in pain to take them. The one thing i don't like about Tramadol is that it takes an hr to kick in. Not one min less. If you let it totally wear off it can take 15 min longer.

Yes Yes & Yes.The TRAMADOL(An627 wh/round are the best; Hands down. The others like 377wh/oblong pills are a striaght up joke. Been taking TRAMADOL for a few years now and from that first time to the present that I took the An627 no other Pills can touch it for Back,Nerve or any other Pain period. Word to the Wise! Do not mess with Oval (footballshape)TRAMADOL pills either. Simply No good.I work 8-12hour shifts on my job everyday Depending on what I'm doing that day I don't have to take no more than 2-3 within the 12 hours. Some days nothing at all. So play party. One other thing Big? The Pills I take are 50mg. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE GENERIC BRAND OF TRAMADOL CALLED (ULTRAM) made me six to my stomach for weeks.

I agree, the oblong 377 pill is ineffective. I have noticed that when I take round pill am267 I experience much more relief. I believe they are manufactured at the same pharmaceutical company. It took me a while to realize the difference as I have been given the oblong pill 377 for two refills. I thought it was me. But I had a few am267 in my purse pill case and noticed the difference when i was out and had to take one of those. It was obvious. I have had this same experience taking Lisinopril; oblong doesn't bring my blood pressure down like the round pill; same dose.

Big Wills, you've got it backwards. Ultram is the BRAND, not the generic & NONE of the generics work nearly as well as Ultram, the brand although I have found that Teva is the best of the generics. I have been told that Northern is better than Teva but I haven't been able to find that in my area.
The best, generic tramadol I've found are the TV 58's by Teva Pharmaceuticals. It's 'football' shaped (elliptical) There are 3 'football' shaped ones that I know of: The 377's which are by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Inc, (these are the weakest or less effective of all); the TV 58's: the best generic tram out there. Very consistent concentration per pill and good tramadol all around; the OUYI 101's by Virtus Pharmaceuticals. (getting ready to try these next month, but they have good reviews. 2 round ones: the 319's by Zydus Pharmaceuticals and the AN(adol) 627's by Amneal Pharmaceuticals. Both the round ones are not as effective as the TV 58's, but they work once you figure out how weak or strong your current batch is.
I've been on tramadol since 2008. I take is for treatment resistant, clinical depression for which I'm on permanent disability after 7 electro-shock-therapy (ECT: ElectroConvulsiveTherapy) which worked for only 3 months. I take it in conjuction with Cymbalta and Remeron and it alleviates my depression to the point where I'm functional.
I was taking up to 3600mg a day until I discovered that it potentiates the other anti-depressants which stopped working many years ago. Now I only take 300mg per day.

A sincere, most experienced​ filled response... PLEASE TAKE THE TRAMODOL! This is my 3rd Vicoden (Lortab) detox and using Tramadol, this is the LEAST painful, least disruptive to my career and family continuance. I cannot stress the word LEAST!!! They work Sir!!! I was totally off Hydrocodone in one week. Had I known the effects of Tramadol on my first two detox, I would not have lost my Professional career, house, moral and etc.

I have been taking tramadol for seven or eight years and find that it works better than other opiods for back pain from a badly ruptured disc and subsequent surgery. I have tried Norco 10/325, MS contin 60 mg, Percocet, Vicodin etc. Tramadol seems to work well for me. I find the round tabs work better for me. The oblong ones seem to give me crappy headaches. I ask the pharmacist specifically for the ones I want. They will fill the Rx with whatever's cheaper for them or what they have on hand at the time. However, everyone is different with respect to how their body reacts to medication. Find what works best for you and stick with it. BTW, if your taking the max or near that (6-8 a day), coming off them is Horrible. Try to take the minimum effective dose, and don't wait until you're in pain, take as prescribed, every 4-6 hrs.

There is no difference, there both 50mg. Some say the AN 627 are better than the 377 The best ones say tramadol on the pill or ultram. And 6 pills are 300mg not 1000mg.

Hi Big. I too used to take hydrocodone for a number of years. After awhile they didn't work anymore. So my Dr prescribed me Tramadols 50mg take up to 5 a day. Well that didn't work either. So now I'm on this new medication called Nyucenta 50mg. So far so good. So lok it up and ask your Dr about it. It works for me. I have chronic back pain and bursitis in both hips. I hope this helps...

I want to clarify a few things,people are commenting here,with all Respect to the readers,I have been taking tramadol,since being in a car accident in 2008,and never wanted to be prescribed Percocet or anything stronger.I settled on tramadol.many people say that that all tramadol work the same,and that's totally false,because of the different manufacturing of the tramadol,the oval shape ouyi 101 and the oblong shape 377 gave me a sluggish feeling.On the other hand the round 627/319 are the best,NOT because of strength but because is more smooth to your system and works with the pain.that ouyi 101 is horrible and the oblong 377 is in between,THE ROUND 627 AND 319 TRAMADOL ARE UNDOUBTEDLY THE BEST"!

Personally I do notice a difference between the 2 types of tramadol. The AN 627 round pills don't seem to help with my pain very much. The 377 oblong pills don't take the pain completely away but they at least help make it bearable. I truly believe it has to do with the non active ingredients. Many pharmacists say that there isn't any difference because the active ingredients are the same. I beg to differ. That's like saying that all sandwich cheese tastes the same or that Oscar Meyer & Eckrich lunchmeats taste the same. No it does not. Although they all have the same base ingredients each manufacturer puts different additives or non active ingredients in their product to make it their own. As of 2014 Tramadol is now considered a narcotic pain medication. I wish you luck in finding at least bearable or low pain days if 'no pain days' aren't an option.

There is no real difference in the quality or effect of the pills. I have personally used them both. They both work the same, one is not "better" than the other. I am usually prescribed the An627's but, sometimes get the 377's. Depends what the pharmacy has in stock.
